I would appear that something with the AC3 audio encoding of handbrake, (20180721171227-36a02cd-master) has changed and no longer keeps the audio in sync, (when encoded to m4v) when there are interruptions in the Tivo TV broadcast source files.

Now that I have a newer mac running the current OS, I upgraded to the current Nightly Build, (20180721171227-36a02cd-master) and tried to encode a Tivo file having this issue of broadcast breakup, the result is that the audio is now out of sync again, (this never happened under the much older version of handbrake I was using previously, (6509svn x86_64) when re-encoding the audio.Īs a test, I loaded the older version of handbrake, (6509svn x86_64) on my newer Mac running the current OS, encoded the problem source file again and the audio in the finalized m4v, remains in sync. This setting was chosen in an older version of Handbrake, (6509svn x86_64) that I was using, because back then the audio, if not re-encode would stop playing on my Apple TV, but the video would continue in the encoded m4v handbrake file. My handbrake settings for audio are set to re-encode the audio from Tivo file, to AC3, (even though the original Tivo audio is AC3) rather than allowing the the audio to just pass through. The source file audio is in sync, (still) after each glitch observed. You will see a momentary glitch in the video and then the audio lags behind the video, in the finalized mv4 file produced by handbrake. The files that have problems all have one thing in common, during the broadcast of the TV show, there is sometimes digital breakup/dropouts during the broadcast, it is at these points of interruptions of the video/audio, recorded into the Tivo file, and then encoded by the new handbrake, that causes the audio to step out of sync with the video. The files that cause this sync problem, stems from the original video file having been sourced from a Tivo file, recorded from Over the Air TV. I've been trying to see what causes audio sync issues with the new Handbrake, (20180721171227-36a02cd-master) and think that I have identified what the cause of the sync issue is.
